How can I check a used car’s service history?

Unfortunately, the only way to check the service history, specifically, of a used car is if the details have been completed and maintained in the owner’s handbook, provided from new by the vehicle manufacturer, or by contacting the servicing dealer (if known).

Ideally, all service, repair works and warranty would be recorded in the booklet along with the dealer details and date stamped accordingly.  It is also recommended that all invoices relating to said works are retained in the car, all of which will support the vehicle’s service history.

When purchasing a used car privately, do ask the seller for this information.

At Roy Chapman Ltd, all of the used cars we offer for sale are also checked by Experian, assuring you of their quality and reliability:

  • Any outstanding finance agreements
  • Any vehicle identified as stolen
  • Any vehicle identified as written-off
  • Confirmation that the registration number plate and vehicle identification number match
  • The CO2 rating for road tax purposes
  • A valuation using industry data
